On June 19, 2019, Hazel Plummer turned 111 years old at Life Care Center of Nashoba Valley in Littleton, Massachusetts.
Plummer was born in Somerville, Massachusetts, in 1908. She had one sister, who died in her 90s, and one brother, who passed away in his 80s. When she turned 100, her son told her, “You are the oldest person I know,” to which she replied, “Me too.”
She is currently the 39th oldest person in the U.S.
After the eighth grade, Plummer went to trade school to become a seamstress. She went to work for an upscale designer on Newbury Street in Boston. She married in 1934 and had two children. She made wedding and bridesmaid dresses from her home and was an active churchgoer who never drank alcohol or smoked. At Christmas, she would bake large plates of cookies, and her husband would bring them to the neighbors in his Santa Claus suit. She now has six grandchildren.
Plummer has resided at the facility since May 2017. Although she has never been an outdoors person, she did get a tan last summer through enjoying the center’s veranda.
She is currently the 39th oldest person in the United States.
