Michaela Williams-Barth, a speech-language pathologist at Life Care Center of Nashoba Valley in Littleton, Massachusetts, recently earned certification in VitalStim® therapy.
VitalStim is an FDA-cleared therapy that administers neuromuscular electrical stimulation to the swallowing muscles to improve motor control.
Williams-Barth received her certification on June 11, 2017, through Career Improvement Advancement Opportunities.
“I often treat patients with neurological impairments who have impaired swallowing due to a stroke or head injury, as well as progressive neuro diseases like Parkinson’s disease, ALS and dementia,” said Williams-Barth. “VitalStim gives me the opportunity to combine traditional swallowing therapy with neuromuscular electrical stimulation for potentially better therapy results.”
